Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The objective of this study is to demonstrate the significance of the "narrative of local space" for disaster reduction. This concept describes the manner in which an event is conveyed with context and progression, and is tied to the specific land and environment. In response to this objective, this study reveals that in traditional Japanese society, three attitudes were instrumental in reducing disaster risk: "avoid," "pray," and "tell stories." The study then proceeded to develop a social experiment on community disaster reduction activities in modern times. The results demonstrated that by introducing the perspective of the "narrative of local space," individuals can select and interpret specific events that occurred not only in their own time and place, but also in the past and in other locations. This allows them to retain these memories in a way that relates them to their own spheres of interest.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
