Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In neovascular age-related macular degeneration, pretreatment visual acuity correlated with visual acuity 7 years after treatment, which suggesting that early detection and early treatment are important to maintain long-term visual acuity. In submacular hemorrhage, a severe complication of neovascular age-related macular degeneration, recurrence negatively correlated with visual acuity 1 year after subretinal injection of tissue plasminogen activator. This showed that the key is how to prevent recurrence after the treatment. Adaptive optics OCT was used to examine retinal structures in detail, but it was not possible to acquire images of the retina in cases with heavy exudates or hemorrhages. In mild cases, we could obtained images, and the arrangement of Muller cells was not disrupted. Higher-performance devices are desired so that imaging can be performed in cases other than minor cases.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
