Outline of Final Research Achievements |
A study was conducted to clarify the relationship between periodontitis and the incidence and prognosis of stroke. Serum periodontal antibody titers were measured in patients with acute stroke, and it was found that the higher the antibody titer against P. gingivalis, the higher the incidence of atrial fibrillation. In addition, the amounts of periodontal bacteria present on the tongue of acute stroke patients were measured by real-time PCR, and it was found that high F. nucleatum levels were independently and strongly associated with cerebral white matter lesions and prognosis 3 months after stroke onset.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
