Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
A plastic porous membrane with a human cell monolayer is used to separate two distinct areas of a microphysiological system to clarify cell barrier functions. However, the plastic porous membrane has low transparency/porosity. Futher, the composition and mechanical properties of a plastic membrane for cell culture are different from the native membrane. Therefore, I proposed a method to remove cells on the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) connecting to a chick embryo and use it as a membrane for cell culture. 1) I developed a novel sensing method for sensing distance between a bubble injector tip and CAM surface. 2) I developed a novel method to remove chick epithelial cells from CAM using electrically induced microbubbles without hurting the membrane structure underneath the cell monolayer.
