Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research project, we focus on periodontal pathogen P. gingivalis infection and caries-causing bacteria S. mutans dental pulp infection. We elucidated the mechanism using an animal model. P. gingivalis-infected diabetic mice had thickened Peyer's patches and altered gut microbiota compared with diabetic mice. In addition, in a rat model infected with S. mutans, expansion of cerebral hemorrhage was observed due to strong adhesion of bacteria to vascular endothelial cells via extracellular matrix type I and type IV collagen. Elucidation of these mechanisms is expected to lead to the importance of oral treatment and the development of new treatment methods.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
