Research Abstract |
This study proposes the distinction between lexical and constructional implicatures, with which the previous concept of “implicature” should be replaced and refined. Lexical implicature, which has been proposed in this study, can account more precisely for the semantic mixture of core meaning and implicature. The latter helps analyze the semantic properties beyond the intrinsic sentence meaning.
