Co-Investigator(Kenkyū-buntansha) 井上 大介  大阪大学, 大学院工学研究科, 准教授 (70448091)
Project Period (FY) 2022-04-01 – 2025-03-31
Keywordsanaerobic digestion / propionate oxidizers / ammonium
Outline of Annual Research Achievements

A key factor for the enrichment of propionate-oxidizers has been explored. Also, the enriched culture showed a good performance in increasing the amount and rate of CH4 production when testing with different kinds of synthetic wastewater under high ammonium concentrations.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

Though the high effectiveness of the enriched culture has been shown to relieve the inhibition of ammonium in simulated wastewater, a large amount of biomass was used in this test. Therefore, an extended period is needed to obtain a desirable biomass for subsequent tests.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

An optimal culture of propionate oxidizing microorganisms and their characteristics will be characterized for smooth production of CH4 under high ammonium and propionate concentrations.

Causes of Carryover

The budget for paper writing and microbial analysis will be used in the next fiscal year due to the delay of publication.
