| Research Abstract |
大型類人猿と鯨類を対象にこころの進化における系統発生的制約と環境適応の問題について検討してきた。
物理的世界の知覚・認識・理解における身体的制約について、ハンドウイルカを対象に空間認識における自己の身体と環境の座標系との間の相互作用についてこれまでに引き続き検討を行った。また、チンパンジーを対象に、視野欠損の症状を呈する個体を対象に、視覚的意識の問題と深くかかわる盲視の現象について検討した。さらにチンパンジーやニホンザルを対象に物理的因果認識の理解について選好注視法などをも言った研究を行った。また、ベルーガやハンドウイルカを対象に水を道具的に使用する行動の観察を行った。
さらに、チンパンジーでは、複数の感覚様相間での様々なレベルでの一致現象について検討し、概念的メタファーがチンパンジーにも存在しうることを明らかにした。
社会的世界の知覚・認識・理解における制約の相互作用については、チンパンジーやハンドウイルカを対象に身体動作の同調に関する基礎的な実験を継続して行った。その結果、チンパンジーでは対面場面のような相手の行動が視認可能な状況下では行動の同調が生じやすいことなどを明らかにした。またハンドウイルカやオランウータンを対象に協力行動や向社会的行動の実験的検討を行った。イルカでも向社会的行動が実験的に観察されうることを明らかにした。
一方ハンドウイルカを対象にした認知実験用の音響タッチパネルの試作機が完成し、基本的性能は十分に備わっていることを確認した。
これらの飼育下での研究と並行して、野生下及び半野生下のチンパンジー、オランウータン、ミナミハンドウイルカ、シャチなどを対象とした社会行動の観察調査を実施した。

これまでに整備した研究環境をもとに、着実に成果を得つつある。また、成果の多くが論文公表という形で結実しつつある。高知県立のいち動物公園、名古屋港水族館、九十九島水族館、かごしま水族館、京都水族館、須磨海浜水族園などとの研究連携も着実に進めており、さらに、南知多ビーチランドとも共同研究に向けての連携を開始した。また、大型類人猿の福祉・保全を考えるSAGAシンポジウムなどに参加したり、九十九島水族館において公開講演会を開催するなど、アウトリーチ活動についてもすすめてきた。

次年度は上記の園館との協力体制を維持しつつ、さらに研究を推進して行きたい。イルカの社会的知性に関する実験的研究のさらなる推進や、チンパンジーなどでのさらなる研究の進展を図る。多くの成果が蓄積しつつあることは先にも述べたが、研究期間の後半に向けて、これらの知見を総合して全体としての大きな結論を得る方向に向かってさらにまい進したい。
