Research Abstract

一年目となる23年度は、コケ坊主生態系のメタゲノム解析が進み複数の論文が出版されるとともに、コケ植物、微小動物についての多様性解析、南極地域における外来種研究を中心に多くの成果をあげることができた。
湖底のコケ坊主については、脂肪酸解析による多様性の概要解明に続き、原核・真核生物を網羅するメタゲノム解析がほぼ完了した。空間構造的な分析と多様性と代謝に関わる遺伝子の解析から、酸化還元電位の勾配に対応した生物多様性と物質循環構造が再構築されたのは大きな成果である。コケ植物については、湖沼底に生育する種類を中心とした分子系統研究が進み、興味深い伝搬経路が明らかになった。珪藻類に関しては国際共同研究が進み、広範囲の多様性解析結果をまとめることができた。微小動物相については、研究分担者ばかりでなくセンチュウ、クマムシを扱う国内外の研究者ネットワークの構築に尽力し、研究集会を開催するなどして共同研究体制をほぼ確立することができた。南極における外来種問題の成果もまとまりつつあり、生物多様性を脅かしうる重要なファクターとしての危険性評価を行うことが出来た。
本研究課題のホームページおよびデータベースについては、基本設計を開始し公開の準備を行った。利用を予定していた国立極地研究所のウェブサーバーが、震災とその後の計画停電を期に民間のクラウドサーバーに移行したため、運用手順や管理ポリシーが変更になり、実際の作業に取りかかることはできなかった。

Reason

コケ植物、微小動物、バクテリアに関連する研究は順調に進んだが、珪藻類を除く藻類、地衣類に関しては準備段階にとどまった。藻類についての試料分与、培養系の確立は終了しているが、分子系統解析をはじめるまでに至らなかった。地衣類についての遅れは、今年度後半に第54次日本南極観湖隊による現地でのデータ取得とサンプル回収を予定しており、この準備に専念したためである。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究課題は、対象生物群毎に研究チームを組織して研究活動を行っているが、多様性解明という大きなテーマでは研究の動機付けに問題がある。そこで今年度からは、それぞれの分類群毎により具体的な到達目標を設定して研究の推進を図ることとする。
また単なる多様性解明にとどまらず、生物間の相互作用、物質循環にまで踏み込んだ生態系のネットワーク解明を視野に入れた研究テーマへと拡張する。
