Outline of Annual Research Achievements

最終年度の四年目となる26年度は、クマムシやセンチュウを中心とした微小動物の分類・生態に関する解析が進み、着実に成果を上げることが出来た。特にクマムシについては多様性の概要に関する論文が出版されたほか、飼育系を確立して繁殖生態に関するデータについても投稿が受理され、極限環境下での多様性と生態の総合理解が進みつつあることは画期的な成果であるといえる。またバクテリアに関しては、コケ坊主をモデル生態系とした物質循環経路の再構築が完了し、メタゲノムなどによる全体像の解析が進んだことに加え、微生物種間の遺伝子水辺伝播が広く頻繁に起こっていることが明らかとなり、新たな視点での研究展開が期待される状況となっている。コケ植物については湖底に生育する水生蘚類の分布について、大気循環からの起源地解析が進展し、南極全体の蘚類相の起源の検討に向かう研究の展開が見られた。菌類については、地上および湖底の蘚類と共存する菌類の生態学的な意義の検討が進められ、極限関係における種間関係について研究が進みつつある。
南極湖沼生態系の生物多様性の全体像が次第に明らかになると共に、湖底堆積物を用いた古環境および古生物相の変遷解析が進み、湖沼研究へ時間軸を取り込む試みが進められた。特に、各生物の南極への侵入時期の特定、侵入イベントの推定、新入起源地の特定については、生物、地学、大気などの幅広い分野からの検討によりその状況が明らかになった。極限環境における生物の定着過程について、新たな視点からの研究分野開拓に向けた芽が生まれつつあり、本課題終了後の研究展開が期待されるものである。
