Research Abstract |
The aim of this study is to address whether or not exercise intervention is effective for the improvement of cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer's disease or mild cognitive impairment. We randomized the patients into exercise intervention and control groups and performed an exercise class per month for 6 months. We also instructed the intervention group to walk everyday with a pedometer. As a result we found a significant increase in physical activity in the intervention group (p<0.05). However, we did not find any difference in cognitive function or other domains between the two groups. In conclusion, our results indicate that the exercise intervention was not effective for the prevention of cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer's disease or mild cognitive impairment.
