Research Abstract |
This project shed light on the background and developments of the new popular religious movements in modern East Asia which were prosperous in the first of the 20th century from the perspectives of disasters and wars. By this research, we made clear that many popular religious societies in East Asia, for example, THE FELLOWSHIP OF GOODNESS (TONG SHAN SHE), WORLD SWASTIKA SOCIETY (SHI JIE HONG WANZI HUI) engaged in various social relief activities in the disasters of drought or flood, also they played import role in the wars by taking the body collection activities, and these activities contributed to the deepening of the sense of religious salvation.
