後期太古代大気の酸素濃度上昇は連続的か突発的か?

Research Abstract

本研究では、インド・ダールワール岩体の堆積岩及び低変成堆積岩の炭素・酸素および四種硫黄同位体の研究から、大気酸素上昇メカニズムとその原因、またそれはどのように起こったのか(長時間で連続的か短時間で突発的か)を明らかにすることを目的とする。本年度は、以下について検討を行った。
(1)静岡大学所有の波長800nmフェムト秒レーザーを波長変換装置(Harmonic Generator)を導入することにより波長を266nmへ変換した。紫外線フェムト秒レーザーによる珪酸塩、酸化物、硫化物、硫酸塩の照射実験を行った。
(2)インド、ダールワール岩体、チトラドゥルガ片岩帯の地質調査およびサンプリングを行った。野外で採取した試料を厳選し、薄片を作成した。薄片はダイヤモンド自動研磨円板を用いて研磨し、硫化物の組織観察およびレーザーアブレーションのテストを行った。
(3)レーザーアブレーション法により生成した六フッ化硫黄を、東京工業大学上野研究室所有の質量分析計で測定した。予察的ながら非質量依存分別を示す試料を発見した。δ34Sは-3.4～2.9%と狭い変動を見せ、Δ33SとΔ36Sはそれぞれ-1.6～3.89‰、-4.0～0.9‰と明瞭な非質量依存分別を示した。
(4)上記の多種同位体分析をおこなった試料データに年代値を加えるために、研究分担者(外田)の所属する国立極地研究所において二次イオン質量分析計(SHRIMP)ならびに電子線マイクロプローブ(EPMA)を用いたジルコンおよびモナザイトのU-Th-Pb年代測定を実施した。これによって、太古代末期の詳細な年代時系列での同位体進化の解析が可能となる。

Reason

インド・ダールワール岩体で採取した岩石試料中の硫化物試料から硫黄同位体のデータを得た。また、その中から非質量依存分別を示す試料を見い出すことに成功した。今後こうした基礎データを発展させることで、目標とする太古代末期の詳細な年代時系列での同位体進化の解析が可能との見通しが得られたため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究地域であるダールワール岩体における年代データが不十分であり、正確な年代時系列での同位体進化の解析ができていない。したがって、今後は新たに詳細な地質調査をするとともに、鍵となる地層の年代を決定し、多種同位体の経年変化を明らかにする。
