Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、インド・ダールワール岩体の堆積岩・低変成堆積岩の炭素・酸素および四種硫黄同位体の研究から、大気酸素上昇メカニ ズムとその原因、またそれはどのように起こったのか（長時間で連続的か短時間で突発的か）を明らかにすることを目的とする。本年度は、以下について検討を行った。
(1) チトラドゥルガ片岩帯から採取された、縞状鉄鉱層（3.0Ga）に関する分析を昨年に引き続き行った。縞状鉄鉱層のストロンチウムとネオジウム同位体比の分析のため試料の化学抽出を行った。多くのサンプルではモデル年代と堆積年代が一致した。
(2) 様々な産状の炭酸塩岩中の炭素質物質を抽出分離し、ラマン分光分析と炭素 同位体のデータと比較したところ、ストロマトライトを含む試料のみ異なる傾向 を示した。電子顕微鏡により炭素質物質の形態観察を行うとともに、炭素質物質 と炭酸塩鉱物間の同位体分別のデータともあわせて有機物の化学的・形態的特徴 と変成作用による結晶化を検討し、出発物質が球状に近い構造を持つ生物起源の ものである可能性を見いだした。
(3) 昨年に引き続き年代値を加えるために、研究分担者（外田）の所属する国立極地研究所において二次イオン質量分析計（SHRIMP） ならびに電子線マイクロプローブ（EPMA）を用いたジルコンおよびモナザイトのU-Th-Pb年代測定を実施した。
(4)本研究期間中に収集したデータを用いて、ダールワール岩体の29～25億年前の地球表層環境解析を行った。特に同岩体に分布するストロマトライトと縞状鉄鉱層の層序学的な位置づけを詳細に検討しながら、有機炭素の炭素同位体に着目し、硫黄の四つの同位体比との比較を行った。さらに他地域の後期太古代の地質体から報告されている詳細な年代時系列での同位体データを解析比較し、汎世界的な海洋と大気の環境を復元し、国際学術雑誌に掲載準備中である。
