Research Abstract |
This research aims to investigate culturally adaptive non-verbal behaviors of intelligent virtual agents for multicultural symbiotic societies by evaluating interactions between a human and an agent. Our research in 2011 verified the cultural difference on facial regions used as cues to recognize emotions of virtual agents. In 2012, we investigate speech duration and perception of virtual agent's nodding timing and frequency. The results showed the importance of adapting culturally appropriate nodding timing and frequency. In 2013, we investigated people's adaptive behavior of personal distance between a virtual avatar and effects of displaying culture-dependent self-adaptor. We have successfully conducted the three-year research as planned.
