Research Abstract |
Secondary glaucoma is the most serious ocular manifestation of transthyretin (TTR)-related familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy (FAP). We investigated the mechanism of bleb encapsulation, which is a complication of filtering surgery. TTR-aggregated amyloid did not cause any change for fibroblast in vitro in physiolosical condition. Subconjunctival TTR-aggregated amyloid embedded in Poly-HEMA in rat might cause mild inflammation. Also, TTR concentration in aqueous humor is significantly higher and TTR is significantly oxidized in glaucomatous eyes.
