Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Our study aims to assess the impact of pharmacy-based health promotion programs on the management and control of hypertension in resource-limited areas of Bangladesh and Pakistan. Through a cluster-randomized trial involving 3,600 hypertensive adults in each country, we are implementing interventions consisting of educational training, counseling, phone calls, and text messages provided at community pharmacies. We are also evaluating the effect of these interventions on blood pressure, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness. All Co-Investigators actively participated in the development of the intervention, study design, and survey questionnaire throughout 2022. Collaborative efforts were made through both online and in-person meetings with Prof. Nakamura, Prof. Sato, and Dr. Alam, allowing for comprehensive discussions on participant requirements and project progress. These discussions also encompassed the establishment of a baseline survey schedule and the proposed intervention timeline for the entire year. It is worth noting that the Co-Investigators' contributions were instrumental in refining the research plan, resulting in no additional costs incurred. This collaborative effort highlights the dedication of the entire team and the effectiveness of their joint decision-making processes.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The smooth progress of our project can be attributed to the diligent efforts of our team and the strong collaboration established with local pharmacists. Through their dedication and effective interventions, we have been able to collect invaluable data and stay on track ahead of schedule, without encountering any unforeseen incidents during the baseline data collection phase.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
As part of our research scheme, we have outlined a comprehensive plan that includes data collection, data cleaning, analysis, and dissemination of findings. In 2023, we collected data from participants in Bangladesh and Pakistan. In 2024, we will carefully clean and organize collected data to ensure accuracy. Clean data will then be analyzed to identify patterns, trends, and relationships. From May to December 2024, we will prepare three manuscripts that interpret research findings and discuss their implications. These manuscripts will be submitted to relevant journals or conferences for publication. In addition, we have scheduled presentations at national and international conferences to share our findings with colleagues and experts in the field. Finally, the project's Principal Investigator (PI) will travel to Bangladesh at the end of 2024 to monitor the progress of the project.
