Outline of Annual Research Achievements

超高齢社会を迎えた本邦において、認知症の有効な予防策を構築することは、持続可能な社会を実現するために極めて重要な課題である。運動は認知症予防に効果的な生活習慣だと考えられているが、その機序には不明な点が多く、より効果的なプログラムの作成、ならびに運動療法の普及の妨げとなっている。そこで本研究は、習慣的な有酸素性運動が脳循環を改善し、脳からの老廃物除去を亢進することで神経・認知機能を向上するという仮説を検証している。その一環として2022年度、我々の研究グループは日頃の身体活動量が少ない高齢者の認知機能、脳構造、脳循環に対する1年間の有酸素性運動トレーニングの影響を調べた。その結果、トレーニング後、高齢者の認知機能は有意な改善を示し、さらにその改善効果には心肺能力の向上や大脳皮質厚の変化が関連することが明らかとなった(Tarumi et al. J Intern Med 2022)。また脳循環においては、有酸素性運動トレーニングが脳血流量を増加させ(Tomoto et al. 2022)、脳血管インピーダンス(血管抵抗指標)を低下することが明らかとなった(Sugawara et al. 2022)。これらの結果は、習慣的な有酸素性運動が、加齢に伴う認知機能や脳循環の低下を軽減することを示唆する。しかしその一方で、脳機能に対する運動の効果は、認知症発症リスクの低い若年者でも見られるかは不明である。そこで我々は若年持久性アスリートを対象に脳MRI画像計測を実施した。その結果、運動習慣のない若年者と比較して、アスリートは大脳白質統合性が有意に向上していることが示された(Tarumi et al. Front Neurosci 2022)。総じて今年度は、高齢者から若年者までの認知機能、脳構造、脳循環に対する有酸素性運動トレーニングの改善効果を明らかにすることができた。

Reason

2022年度は、高齢者から若年者までの認知機能、脳構造、脳循環に対する有酸素性運動の影響を検証し、国際学術論文11報(筆頭2報、CA1報、全て査読付き英字論文)、国際・国内学会での学会発表7件(招待講演2件)を行なった。2023年度も継続して本研究課題の検討を進め学術成果を社会へ還元していく。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2022年度から実施しているヒトを対象とした急性運動実験を完了させデータ解析、抄録作成、論文執筆を行う。また並行して、研究分担者と進めているげっ歯類を対象とした動物実験のデータを纏め抄録を作成する。
