Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本計画では, 惑星形成末期における高速天体衝突現象を理解するため, 阪大レーザー研の高強度レーザー「激光XII号HIPER」と千葉工大惑星探査研の二段式水素ガス銃を用い衝突実験を実施した. 本年度は計画最終年度であり, データを公表するために必要な較正データを中心に取得した.
高強度レーザーを用いた衝撃圧縮実験の目標は,地球の上部マントルの構成鉱物であるカンラン石に対して1TPaまでの密度-圧力-温度-エントロピー平面上でのユゴニオ曲線を得ることである.昨年度までの実験で得られたデータは,実質的精度は十分に高いものの,精度保証するデータが得られていないという問題があった.今年度は,この問題を解決するため,高信頼性データが取得済みの標準試料(石英)でカンラン石を挟み, 両物質の衝撃輝度データを同時に取得した. 層構造を反映したデータの取得に成功し, 高信頼度の較正曲線が得られた.これにより,我々のカンラン石のデータに精度保証が得られ,広い研究応用先が開かれることとなった.
もう一方の千葉工大の衝突実験は,高速度衝突で発生する珪酸塩蒸気の流体力学的挙動の解明が目標である.特に,局所的にエネルギーが集中するジェット現象を利用して, 高強度レーザー実験では達成できない珪酸塩の大量蒸発を実現することが中心テーマであった.ジェット現象によるケイ酸塩岩の衝突蒸発実験の提案は従来からあったが,詳細計測が実現した例はなかった.我々は,本計画で導入した世界最高速ビデオカメラを用いてジェット現象をこれまでにない時間分解能で観察することに成功した.この実験結果と熱力学的考察から2段式軽ガス銃で十分達成可能な7 km/s程度の速度で,玄武岩球を玄武岩板に衝突させれば玄武岩が蒸発させられることが明らかとなった.この結果は,今後のケイ酸塩岩の衝突蒸発現象の詳細解明に大きな道を拓くものである.
