サンゴ骨格の栄養塩指標を用いた過去１００年間の黒潮流量の定量的復元

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は黒潮域に沿って分布する造礁性サンゴ骨格に記録される週単位の高精度履歴を用いて過去100年間の黒潮流量の変化を復元することを目的としている。黒潮流量の観測記録は精々40年間しかなく、また、水温、塩分を指標とした海水の物理量を指標にしたものであった。本研究では、サンゴ骨格から復元される水温(ストロンチウム/カルシウム比)、塩分(酸素同位体比)に加え、新たな指標として栄養塩(窒素同位体比)の時空間変化を復元し、過去100年間の黒潮の挙動を明らかにする。これまで本研究では、黒潮流軸上に位置する高知県竜串サンゴコアの酸素同位体比、窒素同位体比分析、鹿児島県甑島サンゴコアの酸素同位体比、和歌山県串本サンゴコアの酸素同位体比分析をおこなってきた。高知県竜串のサンゴ骨格の窒素同位体比変動からは、過去150年間の黒潮による栄養塩供給履歴を復元した。サンゴ骨格の窒素同位体比は黒潮の流量とともに変動しており、その150年間の記録から黒潮の流量の変動は北太平洋十年規模振動(PDO)とエルニーニョ南方振動(ENSO)によって支配されてきたことが明らかになった。1900年代初頭には西太平洋の水温が上昇するラニーニャ状態のときに黒潮流量は増大しているが、1940年以降にはPDOの振幅が顕著になり、PDOの正のモード、つまり冬のアリューシャン低気圧が強いときに黒潮流量が増大するようになった。1970年代以降ではPDOの正のモードとエルニーニョ状態の両方が黒潮流量を増大させる要因になっていた。鹿児島県甑島サンゴコアの酸素同位体比は東アジア夏季モンスーンの影響を受けて変化しており、その変動がPDOへ伝搬していることを示した。これら二つのサンゴコアの結果はそれぞれ国際誌に論文として投稿中である。また本研究の各サンゴコアの結果を統合することにより、北太平洋の気候変動と大気海洋相互作用の関係を総合的に解釈可能となることが期待される。
