Research Abstract |
The pathogenic fungus, Candida glabrata is thought to take up exogenous cholesterol inside host body. Exogenous sterol uptake in C. glabrata was activated under iron-depleted conditions. Both ABC protein, AUS1 and mannoprotein, TIR3 was required for sterol uptake. Mouse infection model with AUS1-knockout mutant revealed that sterol uptake was thought to promote the C. glabrata survival inside host tissue.
