Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度40GPa領域の圧力発生を確認した新型超硬アンビルを用い、高温発生試験を行った。しかし高温下で圧力の低下が大きいことが判明し、試料加熱部のデザインに大幅な変更が必要であることが明らかになった。一方で、焼結ダイヤモンドアンビルを用いたより高い圧力下での精密測定技術の開発、特にアンプ及びデータ収集方法の改良や、新たに導入したデジタル波形発生装置等の活用の結果、この圧力領域においても十分に解析可能な超音波データを収集できることが確認された。
これまでに30GPa領域の圧力下で、下部マントルの温度での弾性波速度精密測定が可能になったが、この新しい技術に関する論文の執筆を行った。また、MgSiO3ブリッジマナイト及びCaSiO3ペロブスカイトの下部マントルに条件下での弾性波速度測定結果に関しても、論文としての取り纏めを行いつつある。ガーネットに関してはほとんどすべての端成分に対する測定を終了し、論文として公表済みであるが、その過程で「透明ナノセラミックス」とも称されるべき、透明ナノ多結晶ガーネットの合成に成功した（Irifune et al., Nat. Comun. 2016）。当初予定していなかった成果であるが、今後地球科学のみならず材料科学においても重要となると思われる。
一方で、焼結ダイヤモンドを用いた60GPa領域での実験において、2300K程度高温での長時間加熱とＸ線その場観察実験技術の確立を行った。この技術に基づき特にMgSiO3-FeSiO3系、沈み込むスラブ関連物質に関して新たな成果が得られるとともに、Al2SiO5の新しい高圧相を発見した。コンドライト試料を用いた50GPa領域までの融解・元素分配実験の結果も取り纏めつつあるとともに、新たに塩素などの揮発性元素も含めた分配の圧力依存性に関する実験を行い、大気・海洋とマントル深部物質との相互作用に関する研究も行った。

Reason

下部マントル上部領域に対応する高温高圧下での弾性波速度測定技術の開発は当初の予定通り達成され、この領域に存在すると想定される鉱物高圧相の弾性波速度測定もほぼ終了した。また、複雑な化学組成を持つパイロライト等の化学組成に対しても、整合性を確かめるための測定が進んでいる。これらの成果の一部は既に論文として公表されているとともに、現在も執筆あるいは執筆準備中であり、次年度中には発表が可能であると想定される。
焼結ダイヤモンドを用いた下部マントル深部領域での高温発生技術の開発も当初の予定どおり進んでおり、下部マントル物質及び沈み込むスラブ関連物質の下部マントル条件下での相関係精密実験や、コンドライトの溶融・元素分配実験に関しても新たな成果が上がっている。
NPDを用いたマルチアンビル装置による超高圧発生は、大型合成装置の不具合により当初の目標である130GPa程度の圧力発生には至らなかったが、本年度はこれまでの限界を大きく打破する90GPaの発生を達成し、焼結ダイヤモンドに対するNPDの大きな優位性を示すことができた。また、NPD合成の手法を用いた超高圧合成により、弾性波速度測定試料を合成する過程で、新しい透明ナノセラミックスの合成に成功したことは、予期しなかった重要な成果として特筆に値する。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究の最終年度である本年度は、弾性波速度測定に関してはより複雑な化学組成を持つMgSiO3-FeAlO3系ブリッジマナイトに対して、下部マントル上部に対応する圧力下での測定を行い、下部マントルの化学組成に対してより強い制約を与える予定である。また、これまでの成果を論文として取り纏める際に必要な追加実験を、とりわけパイロライト組成の物質に対して行うとともに、コンドライト組成の融解・元素分配実験に関しても取り纏めに必要な追加実験を行う。また、焼結ダイヤモンド及びNPDを利用したより高い圧力での弾性波測定技術の開発を行い、今後の下部マントル中部～最深部の化学組成解明に向けた実験的研究のための準備を開始する。
一方で、本研究の過程で得られた世界初の「透明ナノセラミックス」である透明ナノ多結晶ガーネットは、地球深部科学への応用以外にも新たな光学材料等としての可能性を秘めている。本研究成果に基づく新たな発展として、その生成過程のＸ線その場観察やTEM観察に基づく解明や、微量元素をドープした透明ナノ多結晶ガーネットの合成を試みる。得られた試料の光学特性や機械的特性を評価し、透明ナノセラミックスの応用も視野に入れた試験的研究を開始する。これに基づき、超高圧材料科学とも称される分野の創成を念頭に置いた新たな研究の展開を図る。
