Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度はキラル磁性体の合成指針の確立およびキラル磁性体の特異物性の探索に向けて、合成研究および、物性研究を進めた。合成研究では、キラル磁性体結晶のキラルシングルドメイン成長について、結晶成長の成長速度を変化させることによって、キラルシングルドメインに関する情報収集につとめた。その結果、金属性キラル磁性体のCrNb3S6では、キラルシングルドメインほぼ１００％の結晶の合成に成功した。また絶縁体キラル磁性体のCsCuCl3でも、激しく撹拌させる方法により、キラルシングルドメインほぼ１００％の結晶の合成に成功した。どちらの場合も、世界中で我々のみ成功したキラルシングルドメイン１００％の結晶である。物性研究では先に述べた方法で合成したキラルシングルドメイン１００％のCrNb3S6単結晶サンプルを使ってローレンツTEMでのマクロスケール磁気構造観察を行った。すでに報告しているキラルヘリカル磁気構造（CHM）およびキラルスピンソリトン格子（CSL）の観測を行い、CSL状態でのソリトン数の減少過程の実空間観測を調べた。その際、トポロジカル的にソリトンが減少していく過程が見られ、磁場上昇過程と磁場減少過程でヒステリシスが観測された。これは初めて観測されたものであり、すでに行った磁気抵抗効果の結果を支持するものであった。さらにはこの結果は、キラル磁性体を用いて、多ビットのメモリーが作れる直接の証拠であり、今後応用の可能性について早急に研究を展開する。

Current Status of Research Progress

Reason

本研究計画では、キラル磁性体の結晶設計と結晶成長の手法確立と、新しい物性の探索であった。上の成果の項で述べたように、金属性キラル磁性体のCrNb3S6では、キラルシングルドメインほぼ１００％の結晶の合成に成功し、絶縁体キラル磁性体のCsCuCl3でも、激しく撹拌させる方法により、キラルシングルドメインほぼ１００％の結晶の合成に成功した。このことはすでに手法、結晶成長方法ともこれまでに確立している分子性キラル磁性体の設計と成長方法とあわせて、すべての種類のキラル磁性体の設計手法とキラルシングルドメイン結晶の成長方法を確立したことになる。特に無機キラル磁性体のCrNb3S6とCsCuCl3のキラルシングルドメイン単結晶の育成は、世界中でも我々しか達成していない。さらには、キラルシングルドメイン単結晶を用いることによって、様々なキラル磁性体の特徴的な物性測定が精度よく行えるようになった。そのようにして成長させたキラルシングルドメインCrNb3S6単結晶を用いて、CSLの増減過程を実空間観測できたことで、これまで謎であった磁気抵抗効果のステップおよびヒステリシスの原因が明らかになった。この成果は現在論文として作成中である。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

キラルシングルドメイン１００％の結晶の合成に、分子性キラル磁性体、無機キラル磁性体で成功したので、様々な特異物性の正確な測定が可能になった。キラル磁性体の非相反効果、非線形現象、スピン位相とその他の位相との相互作用の解明など、実に多数の特殊効果の測定を早急に進める。またその他のキラル磁性体のキラルシングルドメイン成長についても、同様なパラメータを振ることによって、達成する。またキラル磁性体の設計指針についても、他の可能性がないか検討してゆく。CSLの増減過程での、トポロジカル効果、磁場上昇過程と磁場減少過程でヒステリシスが観測は初めて観測されたものであり、すでに行った磁気抵抗効果の結果を支持するものであった。さらにはこの結果は、キラル磁性体を用いて、多ビットのメモリーが作れる直接の証拠であり、今後応用の可能性について早急に研究を展開する。
さらには、究極の目標であるDM相互作用の定量化についても、理論の物理計算、物性物理の助けを借りながら、進めていく。
