Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The object of analysis in this study is DNA methylation. DNA methylation is a phenomenon in which a methyl group is added to a CpG site. When DNA methylation occurs, binding of transcription factors is inhibited, and transcription of genes is suppressed.
A DNA methylation inhibitor was added to human pulmonary artery endothelial cells and the gene expression change was measured. DNA methylation analysis of genes with altered expression was also performed. There was almost no change in the degree of DNA methylation of the gene whose expression was greatly changed. From this result, it is considered that DNA methylation does not regulate gene expression on its own.
