Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、大気力学と大気化学の分野の専門家が連携し、熱帯域における直接観測とそれによる取得データの詳細な解析、数値シミュレーションを通じて成層圏変動を統合的に理解することを目的に実施された。初年度に成功させることができた熱帯西部太平洋域における成層圏大気採取実験を核とした統合観測(CUBE/Biak)の成果は、概要論文をはじめとする数編の論文として発表することができた。複数の独立な指標による赤道成層圏大気の履歴の整合的理解という当初からの目標に対し、第3の指標である成層圏大気の「重力分離」について、3次元シミュレーションに世界で初めて成功し、論文発表にこぎつけることができた。得られた結果は必ずしも観測データを完全に説明するものではないが、当初の目標を超える成果であり次に進むための大きな一歩である。他の2つの指標、すなわち、「大気の年齢」と「水蒸気テープレコーダ」との整合的理解についても、後方流跡線を用いた評価が良い結果を示し、中緯度成層圏の大気年齢については中緯度下部成層圏大気の熱帯域への混合割合の変動に興味深い結果を得るとともに、熱帯域の特徴については博士課程の学生を第一著者とする論文として投稿準備中である。
SOWER課題として熱帯対流圏界層・成層圏を対象に繰り返し実施してきたオゾン・水蒸気などの現場観測データからも新しい成果を得ることができ、その経験は、本課題終了後も夏季アジアモンスーン循環に伴う大気物質流出過程の観測へと継承・発展させられようとしている。また、粒子・微物理観測については、米国航空機観測で見出された高氷晶数密度の薄い巻雲を対象に、2粒径エアロゾル条件に拡張した氷晶生成過程の議論が学生の博士論文としてまとまり、学術誌への投稿を準備中である。
総論として、学生の育成を進めながら一部で当初の目標を超える成果が得られたことは大きな成功であったと考えている。
