Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、ハワイ・ハレアカラ山頂の独自の惑星観測拠点と、ひさき（SPRINT-A）/EXCEED宇宙望遠鏡を用いた惑星大気・プラズマ現象の連続観測を行い、巨大惑星「木星」の上下大気－プラズマ結合作用を解明することを目的とする。Ｈ28年度は、ハレアカラ山頂の60cm望遠鏡(T60)・40cm望遠鏡（T40)ともに木星の連続観測を達成した。特に、可視高分散分光器を用いた木星衛星イオトーラスの硫黄発光、ならびに広視野イメージャーによるイオ中性ナトリウム発光の連続観測がなされた。これらは、JAXAひさき宇宙望遠鏡と連携して、イオ火山活動に伴うトーラスの輝度・密度や温度の時空間変動の解明が進められた。
また、T60は本研究目的以外にも、土星の衛星エンケラドスや火星、系外惑星など多くの対象について科学的成果を上げることができた。さらに、ハレアカラでは東北大とハワイ大他との交際連携2m望遠鏡計画「PLANETS」が進んでいる。この推進のために、坂野井健がH28年度後半に約3ヶ月ハワイ・マウイ島のハワイ大学天文研究施設に滞在した。
また、マウナケアにある大型望遠鏡の公募に申請し複数採択された。特に2017年１月にはすばる望遠鏡、2016年4ー5月ならびに2017年３月にはNASA/IRTF望遠鏡による木星赤外オーロラ等の観測が実施された。加えて、最近木星超高層大気ー磁気圏結合モデルの研究も開始した。この研究に関して、本グループからH26年度に１名の博士号取得、H27年度に１名の修士号取得、H28年度に1名の博士号取得と３名の修士号取得があった。
一方エシェル分光器については、検出器故障に対応するためのエレキ系試験を進めた。具体的には、新たに低温（ー240℃）で動作するエレキ製作のために、JFET素子の低温動作試験を動作し、低温動作時の特性を明かにした。このエレキ開発は今後とも継続する。
