Outline of Annual Research Achievements

アフリカ地域において、感染症制圧は依然として緊急性の高い課題であり、我が国からも精力的にその研究・支援が行われている。2006年、WHOとUSADIは病原体媒介生物のコントロールのため、有機塩素系農薬であるDDTの屋内限定散布（IRS）を推奨した。即ち、現在のVector Controlにおいて、DDTに代替えする薬剤は限られており、その年間散布量は、アジア・アフリカ地域を中心に5000トンに達していると報告されている。その結果、マラリアによる死亡率は2000年に比べ世界で25％、アフリカでは33％減少し、一定のbenefitが得られた事が報告された。その一方、IRSは屋内に薬剤を直接散布するため、そのヒト健康影響が懸念されているが、その影響は不明な点が多い。そこで、本研究では、「Vector Control地域におけるDDTやピレスロイドの中・長期使用時の人健康および生態系へのriskを予測する」ことを目的とした。
2016年度は、2015年度に引き続きマラリアコントロール地域である南アフリカ共和国クワズルナタール・ンドゥモで特に齧歯類とニワトリに注目して試料採集を継続した。
特にニワトリや卵を食品として摂取したときのヒトリスク評価をEPAの方法に準拠して実施したところ、食べ続ける事によって1％以上という極めて高い発癌リスクが生じる事が計算できた。次に、ニワトリ自身への毒性影響を明らかにするためにマイクロアレイを実施した。72の遺伝子発現が有意に抑制されている事が明らかになり、ニワトリに対しても一定の影響を与えている事が示唆された。
