Outline of Final Research Achievements |
To verify the physical activity necessary to obtain appropriate sleep in university students, we examined how physical activity, one of the synchronizing factors of sleep, affects the quality and quantity of sleep. We evaluated the sleep quality and quantity of university students using objective indicators, and we assessed the relationship between sleep and factors such as physical activity and mental and physical health conditions. The results suggested that physical activity, physical fitness, and physical and mental health conditions affect the quality and quantity of sleep in college students. Although physical activity is necessary for acquiring appropriate sleeping habits, data indicated that individual differences, including sex, have a great effect on sleep, thus the intensity and timing of exercise may possibly have a different effect on sleep.
