Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の最終目的は，宇宙線の加速のメカニズムを解明することである。そのために，地球に一番近い恒星である太陽表面において起きる，磁場エネルギーの解放である太陽フレアに伴う粒子加速現象を，太陽地球間の磁場に邪魔されることなく直進してくる中性子によって捕らえようというものである。
この目的のために，メキシコのシェラネグラ山(4,600 m)山頂に設置された新型太陽中性子望遠鏡(SciCRT)は，本来は，加速器のニュートリノ振動検出実験に使用されていたものであるが，一旦解体されて移設され，現在では，中心の8層の中性子検出部のうち3層と，それらの上下2層のミューオン検出兼荷電粒子Veto部が，太陽中性子の連続観測装置として稼働している。
本装置は，もともと，ニュートリノ現象という頻度の比較的低い現象を捕らえるために設計されたもので，高山という環境での，高頻度の宇宙線観測では，多くのバックグラウンドの現象に邪魔され，不感時間の割合が多くなってしまう。そこで，本研究では，SciCRTのデータの実時間解析システムを実現するために，まず，「不感時間の減少」という根本的な問題の克服を目指して，データ取得回路の高速化を進め，昨年度までに，Open-Itプロジェクトの枠組みで，KEK測定器開発室と協力しながら，SiTCPを用いた，データの分散読み出しが可能な高速データ収集用バックエンドボード(BEB)のバージョン1.0とバージョン2.0を開発し，中性子部の1層とミューオン検出兼荷電粒子Veto部に実装し，20倍の読み出し速度を実現した。また，中性子部の3層目に新トリガー回路を導入した。
これまでの取得データと計算機シミュレーションにより，太陽中性子の生成時のエネルギースペクトルの巾は±1の精度で決定できることや，85%のバックグラウンド中性子を残し，ガンマ線の96%を除去できることがわかった。
