本研究では、サンマ・マイワシ・サバ類・カタクチイワシなど、重要水産資源として利用されている小型浮魚類を対象に、水産研究機関によって蓄積された産卵調査データを用いることにより、満月-新月などの月齢周期に同期した産卵生態の実証を試みる。その結果に基づいて、各種環境条件が産卵生態に及ぼす影響を月齢同期性の視点を付加して解明し、魚種毎の月齢同期性産卵の解析結果を基に種間比較を行うことで、沖合での小型浮魚類の産卵生態について包括的な理解を進めることを目的とした。
過去の産卵調査データに月齢データ等を付加し、魚種毎の産卵生態に留意して産卵日・解化日月齢データセットを整備した。サンマについては、採集時の水温データをもとに仔魚の成長速度を考慮した孵化日データセットを構築し、水温から推定した卵発生期間を逆算することで、産卵日データセットを整備した。マイワシなど魚卵が採集できる魚種では、魚卵採集データの採集時水温をもとに卵発生期間を推定して逆算することで、産卵日・孵化日月齢データを整備した。
サンマについては、採集網数や採集日の特定月齢への偏りが認められたため、採集網数に対するデータの基準化を行った。解析の結果、月齢別産卵尾数・孵化尾数の月齢周期性が周期性モデル解析により確認され、月が満ちている時期の産卵が多い傾向と月が暗い時期に孵化する傾向が認められた。
産卵が長期間かつ広範囲にわたって認められるマイワシ等の魚種については、予備的に月齢と産卵の関係を探索した結果、いずれの魚種についても月齢と産卵の有意な関係は見出せなかった。潮汐の影響を強く受けると考えられる浅海域のデータに限定した場合でも、周期性を見いだすことは出来なかった。
以上の結果から、小型浮魚類の月齢同期性産卵現象は種によって認められるものがあるものの、痕跡的であることが分かった。
