Outline of Final Research Achievements

Lifestyle effects on patient with total hip arthroplasty. Especially during a heavy snowfall, coping with coldness and shoveling snow are challenging. Nationally standardized intervention for patients to adjust life after discharge, appropriate intervention timing, and coping method in winter can improve patients’ quality of life. Further development of intervention in this field is necessarily. Additionally, education to avoid dislocation is proceeded in most hospitals still in Japan due to fairly different Japanese life style comparing to western lifestyle, although too much information reduce activity negatively.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

今後、国際的な超高齢社会において、人工股関節全置換術の需要はますます増え続けていく。患者が治療に十分に満足できるように、身体機能や痛みだけの視点でなく多様な視点で本治療の効果を検証することは、個別性のあるケアを提供する上で意義がある。本研究により、人工股関節全置換術を受ける患者において、豪雪寒冷地域では、季節によっては、痛みや、凍った路面での歩行の仕方、雪かきなどの重労働には影響があることや、対策として特に豪雪寒冷地では、雪や寒さへの対策も追加して指導することが患者にとって生活の質を高める一助となることが明らかになったことは、患者の多様性に対応して個別性のあるケアを提供できることとなる。
