KeywordsTetrathionate ion / Amperometric titration / Ion chromatography / Thiol compound
Research Abstract

1. It is found that tetrathionate ion was stable in neutral and acidic solutions, and it can be used as a titrant.
2. Tetrathionate ion was determined with potassium iodate by amperometric titration in hydrochloric acid.
3. Redox reaction process of thiol compounds with tetrathionate ion was investigated by ion chromatography and amperometric titration.
4. Determination of cysteine and penicillamine was achieved by amperometric titration with potassium tetrathionate using a rotating glassy carbon electrode at +0.75 V vs. SCE.
5. A sensitive method for determination of thiol compounds(cysteine, penicillamine, cysteamine, glutatione etc.) was developed by nonsuppressed ion chromatography with UV detector. Thiol compound is converted to thiosulfate ion by reaction with tetrathionate ion and the thiosulfate ion evolved is quantitatively determined by IC using gluconate eluent or phosphate eluent.
