Outline of Final Research Achievements

The number of original papers by internal collaboration was only 3 at the time of the mid-term evaluation in 2019, but as of May 2022, it has increased dramatically to 21. A technical seminar on Single cell RNA-seq, DamID-seq, and ChIP-seq technology was held at the young researchers meeting. A technical seminar on metabolome analysis and CUT&RUN technology was held at the area meeting. In terms of research resource support, Tachibana and Takada produced mutant mice, and Okubo produced mutant killifish. The support provided by these administrative group activities has brought about a dramatic increase in internal collaboration.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本領域研究の推進は、生物学や医学分野のみならず、社会学的な観点でも波及効果をもたらした。性スペクトラムの考え方は、領域発足当の2017年には全く一般に普及していなかった。しかし2022年には、「雌雄の定義 見直し進む」などの見出しで本領域の研究成果が新聞で報道されるようにもなった。「二項対立的ではなく連続する表現型として、性を再定義する」との領域発足時の目標は達成できたのではないかと考えられる。
