Outline of Annual Research Achievements

新学術領域研究「自然炎症」を通じて得られた成果を公開シンポジウム並びに報告書を通して、国内外に発信する。これにより、本領域での成果が、「自然炎症」という新たな概念として定着することを目指す。この目的を達成するために、本年度は、国際シンポジウムの開催と、最終報告書の作成を進めた。
1.国際シンポジウムの開催: 2015年1月29日に、東京大学医科学研究所講堂において開催した。計画班全員が発表すると共に、特別講演として、アイルランドのトリニティ大学ダブリン校のLuke O'NEILL教授を招待した。計画班各自の講演は、5年間の研究の成果を紹介したもので、大変力わかりやすく、インパクトの高いものであった。様々な種、炎症病態における分子基盤の解明を目指した仕事であり、本領域の特徴をよく反映していた。また、特別講演のO'Neill教授は、代謝と炎症の関係についての最近の仕事を紹介された。これまで、代謝は炎症とはあまり関係が無いと考えられてきた。しかしながら、最近の知見では、免疫細胞の代謝状態と免疫機能が密接に関わっていることが分子レベルで解明されつつある。自然炎症において、病原体センサーが応答する内因性リガンドは代謝産物そのものに他ならない。従って、代謝と炎症を連携する分子基盤に自然炎症が深く関わっている可能性が考えられる。自然炎症研究の展開する方向の一つとして、「炎症と代謝の連携機構」は大変興味深い点である。
2.最終報告書の作成:自然炎症領域の修了に際して、最終報告書を作成した。計画班を中心に、第1期、第2期の公募班も加えて、これまでの研究の成果が、論文、学会発表、特許としてどのように発表されたのか、記載した。さらに、領域で行ってきた班会議、若手ワークショップ、アウトリーチ活動などについても紹介した。この報告書も、自然炎症の概念確立に貢献しうると期待される。
