Outline of Annual Research Achievements

・SWIMSのハワイ観測所（すばる望遠鏡）持ち込み：2017年度初頭よりSWIMSのハワイ観測所への輸送作業を開始し、8月末にすべてのコンポーネントの輸送を完了した。その後、9月にハワイ観測所に滞在しつつ再組み立て、および冷却性能試験を行い、輸送前の性能が基本的には維持されていることを確認した。しかしながら青チャンネル検出器の焦点位置にずれが確認されたことと、検出器駆動コンピュータの能力不足が明らかになったため、この追加調整を2018年3月に再度ハワイ観測所に滞在して行った。これにより、観測準備がすべて完了した。これらの結果を受け、試験観測のための時間は2018年5月末に割り当てられた。
・面分光ユニットの開発：光学系設計のチェックを行ったところ、面分光ユニットが作る瞳とSWIMS光学系のストップがかなりずれており、大きなケラレが生じることが判明した。そのため、光学系の修正設計を行った。また光学設計ソフトウェアによる設計鏡面の表面形状をそれを加工するための超精密加工機の駆動プログラムに変換する手法を開発し、実際に理化学研究所の超精密切削加工機で非球面形状の試験加工を行った。その結果、形状誤差は要求仕様(100nm)以下で製造することが可能であることが実証できた。また、各種ミラーアレイのアライメントの要求精度の検討を行った。
・観測計画の立案：すばる望遠鏡での2018年前期の観測時間割り当てが2.5夜と確定されたことを受けそれに合わせた試験観測計画の立案を行った。

Reason

平成29年度末に予定していたすばる望遠鏡での試験観測の開始が、ハワイ観測所の予算削減に伴う人員再配置などの影響により受け入れ態勢が十分に整わないこともあって平成30年度5月末にずれ込むことになた。
また、面分光ユニットの光学系設計及びミラーアレイの超精密加工を行っていた大学院生が学位取得して卒業し民間企業に就職したため、平成29年度に新たに入学した大学院生への引継ぎを行ったことにより遅れが生じている。
さらに、ミラーアレイ加工を行う予定としていた理化学研究所の超精密切削加工機を用いた試験加工を行った結果、平面鏡の加工では要求していた面粗さ(10nm RMS)が実現できたものの、非球面加工では十分な粗さが実現できなかった(>30nm RMS)。これは、理化学研究所の超精密加工機の老朽化のためであると考えられ、平成29年度末の新規加工機の導入を待つ必要があことから、ミラーアレイの本格加工も6か月ほど遅らすことになった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

すばる望遠鏡でのSWIMSの機能試験観測は平成30年度5月末から2.5夜が割り当てられ、すでに各種審査及び試験にも合格して観測を待つ状態であるため、問題ないと考えている。
面分光ユニットについては光学系の設計は確定している。その加工については理化学研究所の超精密加工機の導入が平成29年末に完了しその試験も進めつつあるが、鏡面加工で仕様を満たす面粗さ(<10nm)が実現できることが確認できており、今後の加工に問題ない見通しが得られている。現在構造体の検討も進んでおり、平成30年度中に面分光ユニットを完成させることができると考えている。完成後にハワイ観測所にあるSWIMSに組み込み平成31年度には実際の観測ができる見込みである。
