| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Transport costs are essential in the process of transactions for economic activities, such as production and consumption. Transport cost has been treated as an exogenously given parameter in studies of urban economics, spatial economics, and international economics. We construct theoretical models of transportation market, in which transport cost is endogenously determined. We investigate the structure of the transport cost empirically.
This project deals with the following 4 subjects: (A) Theoretical model of transport market with shippers and transport firms; (B) Transport cost determined by network strategies of carriers; (C) Transport cost determined by infrastructure policies of governments; (D) Empirical analysis of transport cost.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
輸送費の削減は経済全体に広範な便益をもたらすが、有効な政策分析を行うために輸送市場の資源配分メカニズムを解明することの意義は大きい。インフラストラクチャ整備、規制、課税、補助金さらには政府間の協調など代替的な政策手段の効果を評価することを通じて、望ましい介入のあり方に関して有益な示唆が得られるものと期待される。また実証分析により得られたパラメータを用いた政策分析は、分析結果に定量的基礎を与えることが期待される。
