In this study, the significance of the legal system on the economic basis of community life (general regal effects of marriage) and the operational status of the legal practice to ensure fairness in the liquidation of matrimonial property were clarified through a comparative study of the legal systems in EU countries. In particular, it has become clear that it is necessary to further examine the "Principles of European Family Law", which have been compiled as a common point for EU countries, and their implications for EU countries in order to make recommendations for a new matrimonial property system in Japan.
