Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We conducted laboratory and field experiments to clarify the effect of soil, ground water level, and direction of water movement on wet injury of rice, by using rice cultivar “Akebono”. As a result, higher ground water level made the germination retarded more and final germination rate lower. As for the soil, the gray lowland soil and the Shikoku paddy soil showed the significant retardation of the germination and the low final germination rate. On the direction of the water movement at the ground water level of 0cm, the downward flow decreased the final germination rate most. These results were confirmed both in the laboratory and field experiments. Therefore, it is suggested that the paddy soil tends to occur the wet injury of rice, and high ground water level and a long-term rainfall would encourage it.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
当該研究の成果は、土壌物理的条件を制御することによって、乾田直播水稲の出芽不良(湿害)の発生条件を具体的に示した点にある。とりわけ、水田土壌が湿害を助長するリスクが高いことを示した点は、意義が大きい。また、これらの成果は、農林水産省が発表した食料・農業・農村計画に示された水稲の多収・省力栽培技術の一翼を担うと考えられる乾田直播栽培における、圃場選びや圃場管理、土作り等の指標の明示に繋がり、これに基づく農作業の効率化・省力化が期待されるため、社会的な意義も大きい。
