| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we controlled the stimulus luminance by using a video consisting of simple dots. In the middle of the video, we created a video that gradually increased the amount of information in order to make the transition from the initial state of not understanding to the states of "understood" and "not understood". As a result, the pupil was already dilated before the experimental participant reported the inspiration, and the subsequent inspiration was predicted. In addition, these results were not related to the participants' confidence level in the inspiration task they performed. In other words, the pupil was not related to the participant's subjective feeling of almost having an inspiration, indicating that successful memory retrieval for an object in unconscious processing is reflected in the pupil dilation.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
視覚や聴覚などの刺激のオンセット、もしくはボタン押しなどのオンセットを中心に解析を行っている認知神経科学的研究に、新たなアプローチを追加するきっかけとなる可能性がある。また、行動による報告ができない乳幼児や障害のある方へのアプローチとして応用範囲が広がることも考えられる。認知神経分野の成果を社会実装応用に用いるということを念頭に置いた場合、脳波計測は測定に手間がかかる上に、接触センシング技術であるという問題がある。このような社会的ニーズがあることを考慮すると、本研究の成果が、非接触測定技術としての瞳孔計測を社会応用の 1 つの大きな流れとするきっかけとなると考える。
