| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examined the applicability of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) to Japanese language education. First, we interviewed experts at overseas test development organizations and foreign language education institutions, and found that none of them had applied the CEFR to Japanese as is. Next, we developed a questionnaire to assess the level of proficiency of Japanese language learners to perform specific language activities, based on the language proficiency descriptors of the CEFR's listening, reading, speaking, writing, and interaction activities, then conducted a survey of learners in Japan and overseas in consideration of their native language. As a result, it became clear that in order to use CEFR in Japanese language education, it is necessary to adjust and supplement the language proficiency descriptors, such as changing the level.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
日本語教育界ではCEFRを参照枠に用いる試みが最近多く見られる。CEFRを汎言語的な参照枠とする見方もあるが、実証研究は見られない。North(2014)は、非ラテン系文字言語とアルファベット言語とで文書を「読む」処理方略が異なるとしている。
本研究は、日本語学習者調査データを基にCEFRの言語能力記述文をIRT尺度化し、難易度の順序性を元のCEFRと比較して、日本語の独自性を量的研究で炙り出し、欧州域外で汎言語性の成立に疑問を示した点に学術的意義があり、日本語の独自性に対応する変更・調整により、CEFRの理念に則りつつ、日本語教育に適合した参照枠を示唆する社会的意義のある成果が得られた。
