Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aims to clarify nursery teachers' thinking and values regarding clay play in Japanese ECEC. As a result of semi-structured interviews survey with 14 nursery teachers, the following was revealed. The nursery teachers felt that they had a high degree of freedom in the practice of clay play in nursery schools and kindergartens and found that clay play had both positive and difficult aspects. In addition, the nursery teachers had different purposes for clay play in free-flow play and for clay play that was intended to create something as the main activity. If there is no clear goal setting with clay play and if it is not limited to creating things, the nursery teacher can experience difficulty. The degree of freedom of clay play was not fixed, and the nursery teacher was aware that this boundary fluctuated. This makes it difficult for nursery teachers to reflect on the practice of clay play and to consider the necessary expertise.

日本の保育所や幼稚園で乳幼児期を過ごした人ならば、誰でも一度は粘土遊びをしたことがあるだろう。粘土は、日本の幼稚園草創期から現在に至るまで、幼児教育・保育の現場に古く長く取り入れられ続けている教材の一つである。なぜこれほど保育現場に粘土遊びが浸透しているのか。この問いの答えには、子どもの育ちや表現に対して、保育者が求める何らかの価値観が潜んでいると考えられる。本研究は、保育者やその背景社会が粘土遊びに対して有する考え方や価値観を明らかにすることにより、粘土遊びの現代的意義と、幼児教育・保育における表現活動の今度の可能性と方向性を探る試みの一端である。
