Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research aims to clarify the Labeling Theory advocated by Chomsky (2013, 2015) by elaborating on (i) how non-nominals and non-nominatives located in the canonical subject position undergo agreement with the functional head T and (ii) how nominal subjects and nominatives remaining within the VP-domain undergo agreement with the functional head T despite their distant relation. Regarding (i), it argued that the relevant elements are subject to agreement of topic feature or partial agreement of phi-features.As for (ii), it concluded that the c-commanding relation suffices to agreement between the two distant elements provided that they are accommodated in the same phase domain.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
