Research Abstract

土壌や根圏に生息する微生物である枯草菌は細胞外に多量の蛋白質分解酵素であるプロテアーゼを分泌する。プロテアーゼの役割は、細胞の周辺にたまたま存在する動植物の破片やその細胞内容物に含まれるタンパク質をアミノ酸またはペプチドにまで分解し、細胞に取り込まれる形にするものと考えられる。しかし、枯草菌は必要な時にだけ、すなわち、栄養が不足した時にだけプロテアーゼを分泌する。本研究は、このような制御のメカニズム解明を試みた。その結果、グルタミン合成酵素が細胞内の栄養(窒素源)状態を感知し、その制御下にある種々の転写制御因子をコントロールしてプロテアーゼの産生を制御しているという結論を得た。
