Research Abstract |
This study illustrates the crucial role of several risk factorsduring infancy and school-years, such as being neglected by the parents, being truantor bullied, in determining whether he/she is able to secure a stable job and to avoidthe risk of becoming poor. The study is based on the multi-dimensional life-history survey, conducted in cities of London, Liverpool, Tokyo and Higashioumi. The study uses conceptsof “social exclusion” and “social capital” as the theoretical frameworks, newlydeveloped “community carte system” as a collaborative information gathering tool, andsocial epidemiology as the quantitative research method. It also clarifies the importantroles of mental health-related risk factors in mediating these risks, and, measured theeffectiveness of “resilience factors”, particularly those related to the communitysupport provided by the family, friends and neighbourhood in mitigating such risks
