Outline of Research at the Start

高い対称性を持つ炭素性3次元物質「ダイアモンドの双子」のキラリティに着目し,種々の分子デザインと合成を通じてキラリティの特性を探究する.まず,構造の剛直化を指向した分子デザインによって,不斉合成・光学分割を通じてキラリティ発現の機構を解き明かす.また,ヘテロ元素のドーピングを施した分子デザインによっては,キラリティの伝播とそこから生まれる物性を探る.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Diamond fascinate scientists not only for the properties but also for the beautiful structures. There exists only one other carbonaceous material with the high symmetry besides diamond. It is "diamond twin", which has not yet been synthesized but has been of interest because of its chirality. In this study, I synthesized cage molecules as substructures and obtained achievements on three topics: 1) structural expansion, 2) supramolecular chemistry, and 3) heteroatom doping. 1) The propagation of chirality was clarified by structural extension. 2) It was found that guests can be incorporated inside the cage structures, and a method to determine the stoichiometry, which is applicable to any other complexes , was proposed. 3) The introduction of nitrogen atoms was found to be effective for the construction of network with with metals.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

ダイアモンドの双子は,我々の研究開始以前は合成されたことのない物質であった.その構造に工夫を加えることで初めての合成に成功し,今回の研究ではいち早くその構造化学へと展開させてきた.1.構造拡張・3.ヘテロ元素ドープでの成果は更なる新材料への展開を志向するものである.また,2.超分子化学で得られた成果は,超分子錯体の会合比の決定法の提案という,想定外に幅広い分野へ影響する結果となった.新物質の創生は,その物質が直接与える物性や機能を超えた意義があることを示す例であると言える.
