Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aimed to evaluate the urban density considering open space improvement and introduction of compact city development policies in local greater metropolitan areas in Japan. First of all, this study grasped the degree of urban density on a small spatial scale in each local greater metropolitan area. Secondly, based on the results, this study concretely proposed the remedial measures on a district level which can be introduced within the limits of the urban and reginal planning systems in Japan. Specifically, this study proposed the open space improvement policies in addition to the measures for urban environmental conservation in high-density areas, and the compact city development policies such as control of suburbanization and urban sprawl in low-density suburban areas.
