| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research I examine and seek to throw light on the process by which the foundations of dramatic ballet were formed in the 18th century, from elements originating in 17th-century courtly culture, such as court and opera ballets, and from others derived from 18th-century popular performance spectacles, such as comic opera. The research revisits the contents of Noverre’s Lettres sur la danse, et sur les ballets (1760), which is regarded as one of the most important 18th-century literary sources on ballet. The research also illustrates the influence on this process of the dramatic theory of the 18th-century Enlightenment philosopher Denis Diderot, focusing on a ballet well-known among modern audiences: Dauberval’s La Fille mal gardee (1789).

ノヴェールの著作を中核にした従来の18世紀バレエ史研究に対して、本研究は、17世紀のバレエおよび18世紀という時代がアクション・バレエの成立に果たした役割を包括的に捉え、現代われわれが見るバレエの諸原理の淵源を明らかにすることができた。またこれを通して、「アラベスク」を非難したノヴェールの立場、すなわち舞踊を模倣芸術として確立しようとした彼の立場のバレエ史における特異性が、逆に浮き彫りになった。バレエ史を通してバレエに寄り添い続けてきたこの概念を手がかりに、近代芸術と舞踊芸術の関係性が開示されることになれば、それは芸術の新たな在り方を考える契機となりえ、その社会的意義は極めて大きい。
