研究概要

海馬白板に位置するオリゴデンドロサイトを同定し,神経伝達物質であるグルタミン酸や細胞外カリウム濃度の増加に反応して脱分極することを示した.そして,オリゴデンドロサイトを脱分極させると,そのオリゴデンドロサイトの髄鞘で取り囲まれている軸索の活動電位の伝導速度が速くなることを証明した.この効果には,オリゴデンドロサイトの脱分極に伴う髄鞘や軸索の電気的性質の変化が関与していると考えられた.このような修飾効果の存在は,脳での情報処理に対するオリゴデンドロサイトの新しい役割を示唆するものである.
