研究概要

ロタウイルスは先進国にも発展途上国にもある普遍的ウイルス感染症であるが、感染の帰結による乳幼児死亡は発展途上国に偏在し、ネパールはそのような疾病負担が大きい国の1つである。世界保健機関は2009年に地球規模でのロタウイルスワクチンの定期接種への導入を勧奨し、ネパールにも早晩ロタウイルスワクチンが導入されると予想される。本研究では、ワクチンのインパクトを評価する基盤となるネパールにおけるロタウイルスおよびノロウイルス下痢症の分子疫学的特徴を明らかにするとともに、特に、ネパールに特有の、ワクチン株とは異型であるG12P[ 6]株の流行動態を明らかにした。
