研究概要	ヒトNIDDM型糖尿病には多くの遺伝因子の関与が明かにされており、NIDDM研究においては、さらに多種のマウスモデルの甲斐発が要請されている。フィリピン産野生マウス(Mus musculus castaneus)とC57BLとの戻し交配より、高血糖・インシュリン抵抗性を示すマウスを分離し、9世代にわたる選抜交配の結果、従来のNIDDM研究モデルマウスに比較して、明かに若年性発症で、かつその症状が重度であるラインの育成にほぼ成功した。この高血糖・インシュリン抵抗性マウス系統では、10周齢個体においてその40%が糖負荷試験(120分値)において200mg/dl以上を示す糖尿病となる。さらに、20周齢では約70%の個体が顕著なインシュリン抵抗性を示す。現在、この系統の中に、糖負荷によりインシュリン分泌が誘導されやすい個体と誘導されにくい個体が存在することが判明しつつある。これら2タイプのマウスを分離し、系統純化し、研究に供することが可能となった。フィリピン産野生マウス(Mus musculus castaneus)より、リズム異常個体を分離し、系統化と遺伝様式の解析を進めた。、明暗サイクル条件下で活動パターンが昼行性になり、恒常暗条件に移すと概日リズムが次第に減衰し、ついには完全に消失する個体を発見することに成功した。このマウスについて、遺伝様式を把握するため、マウスC57BLと実験交配を進め、子孫の形質を解析し、劣性突然変異遺伝子によることが確認された。このリズム変異マウスは、自然集団から検索、発見された初めてのものであり、ほ乳類実験動物種で発見されているリズム研究モデルの中でも最も顕著なリズム変異特性を有しており、優れた研究材料となる。
